Batman the Dark Night Toys by Mattel

I went to a wonderful speech tonight sponsored by Women in Toys, South Coast Chapter, hosted by my employer Suzanne-Mills Winkler and Dynamic Designworks.
It was at the Mattel headquarters in El Segundo, an exciting place for the Dollhead to visit!!!The topic of the night was "Bringing Movies to Retail" with a panel of 3 knowledgeable toy professionals:
Tim Kiplan, GM/SVP, Boys Division, Mattel Brands
Kelly Gilmore, SVP, Global Toys & Themed Ent., Warner Brothers Consumer Products
Julian Montoya, VP, Global Toys, Warner Brothers Consumer Products

They spoke about their experiences turning movies into toys, in particular with the recent Batman Movie and with Speed Racer. The most fascinating tidbits in my opinion where these:
-The toy designers at Mattel where able to use the C.G.I. files from the movie to make the vehicle toys from Batman.
-A small team of designers had only 4 days on the Batman set to quickly sketch everything they could on the set and turn it around into product in a short lead time.

I highly recommend joining Women in Toys if you are a toy designer, the talks are super informative and interesting. And you don't have to be a woman to join, boys are welcome too.
